Our story
A coworker at the dealership Alan worked at hit his car by accident. After taking it to the guy in the back to get it fixed and painted, the quality of work was terrible. Should of known when he was painting it outside in the back but whatever. After being told “You try and do better” – we turned to the internet and found Plasti Dip. Becoming completely obsessed with the process, knew this was going to be more than a hobby. The first car was sprayed.
Alan ended up truly becoming obsessed with this type of car wrap. His BMW e90 has been at least 25+ colors since. Slowly friends and family started to ask questions. “What bank did you rob?” and “did you get a new car?” They too wanted to get a color change on their vehicle and a business was born.
Our first sponsored car meet was in the works. Ended up having a few cars there at the show and even had one win a “Best in Wrap”.
Getting our first shop rather quickly, other peelable paint brands besides Plasti dip started to reach out and wanted us to use their liquid wrap. Next came the pigment companies. Samples were rolling in. Our first colorshifting project was a tough one. When I tell you we learned a lot, we really did. The client was happy but deep down I knew we were on to something and could do better.
Projects are flowing in. The sponsored car shows slowly paying off. A few car clubs got wind of what we were doing and wanted their cars done. The Hyundai Genesis and Dodge Charger Clubs we probably one of the best for us.
Things got kinda tough for us here. One of the pigment companies we ordered from seemed to edit their photos so much the “real-life” color wasn’t the same as what was seen online. After having about 3-4 of the Hyundai cars not happy with the color and the landlord needing the shop space, we had to shut down for a bit. Really freakin bummed about this. Missing the ability to be within the industry and a little upset the pigment company was showing false colors, a pigment company was born. Granted no business garage but a personal home garage to only spray samples, that wasn’t going to stop Alan.
We were still able to spray here and there but more focused on the pigment sale vs the install side. Allowing us to get more creative on the installs while building a pigment brand. Shortly after, one of the peelable paint manufactures reached out to us and said “Hey I love what you’re doing, wanna be a sale rep for our paint?” Of course, being in love the with the industry, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity (kinda wish we did but its whatever)
Our first gloss project complete. Still working out of our personal garage, we knew this can’t be a continual thing if we plan to spray more gloss projects. Pigment sales are increasing, peelable paint sales are increasing and more and more local clients are asking about getting their car done. WE NEEDED ANOTHER SHOP. Looking online was a dead end so Alan hopped in his car and drove around Jacksonville till one was found. Literally the next day after signing the lease, a project was booked.
Still doing our thing with pigment sales, promoting the coating and doing installs, we were approached with another business opportunity from the same company. One we truly regret saying yes to. Selling the pigment company ownership and getting a seat at the peelable paint manufacturer. COVID-19 happen and so many other responsibilities being dumped on to was truly overwhelming to say the least. Kept our head up and dealing with the BS thrown our way we knew someone was needed for our marketing team. That’s when things really started to pick-up for Dipstick Jax.
After 2020 and how things were handled, enough was enough. Back to our roots of doing installs only. Having the added social media learned in the past years and the support through friends and family, we left the sales of product side and started focusing on installs of the liquid wrap.
Our first viral project! A Galaxy theme liquid wrapped Lexus. The inner-webs went crazy! So many top Instagram pages started taking note of our projects and sharing them. Our Instagram went from 5k followers to 50k within a few short months. Truly blessed to have the clients we do. Giving us free range on some of these projects. People started to travel from all over the world. Not just the US but the WORLD!! Had a few guys from Sweden who flew over and hung out with us for a week. Customers from MD to FL, PA to FL, NC to FL and even TX to FL.
Calling all Cybertrucks! Being a sucker for uniqueness, the Tesla Cybertruck is just that. We sprayed/wrapped a Pink Tesla a year ago prior and the owner loved how his daughter’s car turned out and asked us to come down to Stuart FL and stay onsite at his location to spray wrap his Roofing companies fleet of trucks and trailers, his Cybertruck and even a few of his friends cars and trucks. Talk about a dream come true.
Got a project in mind? Feel free to reach out. We are very passionate about what we do and have been doing this for a little over a decade.
