Nova Burst Megashift | Gloss Liquid Wrap

Nova Burst | Gloss Liquid Wrap

NOVA BURST MEGASHIFT

We liquid wrapped this Ford Mustang GT in Raail Spherical with Gloss Clear Coat for a scratch resistant, gas resistant, more durable finish. This peel-able auto paint will last 5+ years, protect the factory paint, and peel off easier than vinyl. Here’s how we did it.

REMOVE

This Mustang GT came in already liquid wrapped and unfortunately the previous installer did not do a great job. The coating was very thin especially on the edges which is a sign that not enough product was applied. Peeling this would be a pain. I let the customer know I could do it but it would cost. He ended up getting most of it off himself. I just used mineral spirits and a towel for the rest.

MASK

Masking the car was a breeze. I used almost everything from our Starter Kit. Plazmask makes masking off the windows and roof super quick. Some solvent resistant paper and tape for lights and mirrors and a couple wheel covers and it was good to spray.

BASE

I used the Compressor and an HVLP gun for the whole project. 1.7 tip size for the Spherical Base. For this pearl I am using a black base. A car this size needs about 2 gallons of base, 2 gallons of color, and 1 gallon of clear in order to peel properly and have good durability.

COLOR

The Pearl, Nova Burst Megashift, gets mixed into un-tinted Raail Spherical Basecoat. I ended up using 35g total in 2 gallons but I would suggest 15g a gallon. Still using a 1.7tip and focusing on my spray pattern to avoid stripes.

CLEARCOAT

For the Gloss I switch to a clean gun with a 1.3 tip. The gloss gets mixed with activator at a 4:1 ratio respectively. I lay down 2 medium wet coats and let it dry. I did end up flow coating this one, sanding with 1000grit and applying 1 more coat of gloss for a smooth finish.

UNMASK

We want to unmask after the coating has dried so we wait about 6-8 hours before removing all masking materials. A rag and some thinner will take care of any overspray and this truck is ready for delivery. This whole process took only about 2 work days although we spread it over 3 to be safe and the owner loves his new look. As always, all the products used are listed below and if you are interested in getting your car done, give me a call!
